چکیده

The detection and quantification of surface deformation of an active rock glacier using the differential SAR interferometry technique is presented. An average deformation rate of 6 mm/35 days in the radar line-of-sight in the summer of 1992 was estimated. The maximum deformation rate was located at the upper part of the rock glacier and amounts to 18 mm/35 days. In contrast, at the snout of the rock glacier the deformation rate was only around 10 mm/35 days. The spatial distribution of the surface deformation in the D-InSAR displacement map is smooth and supports the idea that ice is the stress transferring medium in rock glaciers. DETECTION AND QUANTIFICATION OF ROCK GLACIER DEFORMATION USING ERS D-InSAR DATA

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems normally record both the amplitude and the phase of the backscattered echoes. However, the phase of a single backscattered image is of no use and therefore, conventionally the amplitude or intensity image is usually provided to the user. But on the contrary, the phase difference of two backscattered SAR images of the same area on the ground taken at slight...

Measuring Snow and Glacier Ice Properties from Satellite

Satellite remote sensing is a convenient tool for studying snow and glacier ice, allowing us to conduct research over large and otherwise inaccessible areas. This paper reviews various methods for measuring snow and glacier ice properties with satellite remote sensing. These methods have been improving with the use of new satellite sensors, like the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) during the las...

Estimation of Ice Flow Velocity of Calving Glaciers Using Sar Interferometry and Feature Tracking

Changes in velocity of the large outlet glaciers and ice streams in Antarctica are important for ice sheet mass balance and hence sea level. The ice flow velocity is also a critical variable in understanding glacier dynamics. Polar Record Glacier, with a calved iceberg in front, is about 50 km to the west of the Zhongshan Station, East Antarctica. SAR interferometry can detect the surface displ...

The Use of Ground-Based Photogrammetry and SAR Interferometry to Characterize the Surface Motion of an Arctic Glacier

Measurements of surface displacement made using GPS, SAR interferometry, and ground-based photogrammetry were compared for a number of targets located close to the terminus of a polythermal arctic glacier. The results showed that average measurements for the winter period made using GPS and SAR interferometry agreed well at most locations. Horizontal and vertical photogrammetric measurements we...
